Draft Grade — Dolphins

The phones sank the Dolphins this weekend: C.

The Karson Sharar pick is the one that will follow the Dolphins into the fall. They took him 76 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ramsey.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Derrick Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Derrick Moore. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Malachi Lawrence
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malachi Lawrence well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87 Rnd3 Skyler Bell
Skyler Bell at Round 3, Pick 23 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90 Rnd3 Kamari Ramsey
A tidy bit of business in the 90th pick, where Kamari Ramsey graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick111 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
A clean, defensible pick in pick 111 with a little surplus value in Kaytron Allen. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jack Endries
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Endries in No. 112. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd4 Beau Stephens
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beau Stephens. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Louis Moore
Louis Moore in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick227 Rnd7 Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer at pick 227 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick257 Rnd7 Karson Sharar
They reached into another round for Karson Sharar, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
