FutureB
A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B- weekend for the Jets. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Fernando Mendoza, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Reese steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Freeling has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 4 they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In No. 28 they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot.
Pick35
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick59
Rnd2
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in pick No. 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at the 104th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore at the 128th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
Jaden Greathouse in pick 167 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick177
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at Round 5, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200
Rnd6
Isaiah Jatta
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Jatta in pick 200; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick202
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in the 202nd overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
Raylen Wilson at the 210th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick216
Rnd7
Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick236
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A clean, defensible pick in slot 236 with a little surplus value in Trey Zuhn III. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick254
Rnd7
Bear Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Bear Alexander at pick No. 254 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
The board had cheaper options than Fernando Carmona at Round 7, Pick 41, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
