Clevesteve DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns

Draft Grade — Browns
Overall

FutureA+
The Browns fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A. The rest of the league had time to spare on Terion Stewart; the Browns did not wait, grabbing him 37 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 8. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Getting Leavitt where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the 7th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end. A real need, handled.
Pick10
Rnd1
Keldric Faulk
In pick No. 10 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
Denzel Boston is a better player than slot 34 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick36
Rnd2
A.J. Harris
No edge and no loss on A.J. Harris in No. 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick66
Rnd3
Sam Leavitt
Sam Leavitt at pick 66 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
A reasonable price with a little left over, Monroe Freeling in the 102nd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick141
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
They read the board right and Earnest Greene III was the payoff at the 141st pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215
Rnd6
Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson slid further than he should have, and No. 215 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224
Rnd7
Terion Stewart
A big swing on Terion Stewart at pick 224, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
