Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Lions reached some 64 spots for Eric O'Neill, and value like that does not grow back.

Ramsey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In pick No. 17 they get protection for the quarterback, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
By-the-book stuff, D'Angelo Ponds at pick 50 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118 Rnd4 Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey at Round 4, Pick 18 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128 Rnd4 Logan Jones
You do not let an offensive lineman like Logan Jones reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick157 Rnd5 Chris McClellan
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chris McClellan at the 157th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick181 Rnd5 Malik Benson
Somehow Malik Benson was still sitting there in the 181st overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick205 Rnd6 Eric O'Neill
They talked themselves into Eric O'Neill at slot 205, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick213 Rnd6 Kobe Baynes
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kobe Baynes at pick No. 213 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222 Rnd7 Ephesians Prysock
The board fumbled Ephesians Prysock all the way to the 222nd pick, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
