Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Grand theft in pick No. 131: the Saints steal Mbow and grade out a B. The Saints did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Marcus Mbow fell into the 131st pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
Travis Hunter in slot 9 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Armand Membou
Armand Membou in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at Round 3, Pick 7. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jihaad Campbell at linebacker with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jaxson Dart
Circle this one: Jaxson Dart at the 112th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick131
Rnd4
Marcus Mbow
You do not let an offensive lineman like Marcus Mbow reach pick No. 131 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
