Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+

A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Patriots get a C+.

The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Nyziah Hunter went at Round 2, Pick 30, a good 443 picks before the board was ready. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

The Overton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Isaiah World
In No. 30 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Nyziah Hunter
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nyziah Hunter. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ahmaad Moses
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ahmaad Moses well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick125 Rnd4 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130 Rnd4 C.J. Fite
They will replay C.J. Fite at the 130th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168 Rnd5 Semaj Morgan
Semaj Morgan at Round 5, Pick 30 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191 Rnd6 Mansoor Delane
Somehow Mansoor Delane was still sitting there in No. 191, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick202 Rnd6 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis at pick 202 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick208 Rnd6 Kevin Jennings
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kevin Jennings in slot 208, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick211 Rnd6 LT Overton
LT Overton in pick No. 211 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick246 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
By-the-book stuff, Desmond Reid at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
