Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Dolphins bled value on every deal, hence the D.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Roman Hemby in slot 227. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Ponds pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board.

They banked enough surplus on Miller to cover a lot of smaller sins.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Spencer Fano
In the 7th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick12 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 12th overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick18 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq in pick 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick38 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
By-the-book stuff, Olaivavega Ioane at No. 38 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick46 Rnd2 LaNorris Sellers
LaNorris Sellers at slot 46 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 15 is lovely value for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 A.J. Harris
Good price on A.J. Harris in the 67th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick78 Rnd3 Brian Parker II
No drama and no debate, Brian Parker II went about where he belonged in No. 78. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85 Rnd3 Mikail Kamara
A wild overpay on Mikail Kamara in pick No. 85, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They zigged when the board said zag, taking D'Angelo Ponds at cornerback with interior defensive lineman open.
Pick112 Rnd4 Adon Shuler
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent slot 112 on Adon Shuler, a safety they were not short of.
Pick132 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A tidy little value on Bryce Lance in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick152 Rnd5 Blake Miller
Value with a capital V on Blake Miller in the 152nd pick, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154 Rnd5 Iapani Laloulu
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Iapani Laloulu. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick172 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Drew Allar at No. 172 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
They reached a country mile for Roman Hemby at the 227th pick, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
