Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B+
ValueA NeedB+ TradesB+ FutureB-
The Dolphins left with their quarterback, and a B+ to match.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Jermod McCoy slide 160 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.

Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
Fair-plus on Fernando Mendoza, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick62 Rnd2 Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane at pick No. 62 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick75 Rnd3 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate at Round 3, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87 Rnd3 David Bailey
They will replay David Bailey at pick No. 87 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90 Rnd3 Spencer Fano
Taking Spencer Fano in the 90th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111 Rnd4 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in slot 111 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick149 Rnd5 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at the 149th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jermod McCoy
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jermod McCoy in No. 168, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick227 Rnd7 Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
