Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-.

The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Roman Hemby went at the 171st pick, a good 99 picks before the board was ready. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Ponds pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 11th pick they get a rangy last line of defense, outstanding value to boot.
Pick43 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at No. 43 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
A slide stopped in pick 75, with Keionte Scott worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick87 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
A surprising call. With wide receiver, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 23 on D'Angelo Ponds, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick92 Rnd3 Caden Curry
A reach on Caden Curry in pick No. 92; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
They took Trinidad Chambliss at par in slot 111, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149 Rnd5 Pat Coogan
Value said wait; Pat Coogan in the 149th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick166 Rnd5 Riley Mahlman
Riley Mahlman in Round 5, Pick 28 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at pick 171 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 PJ Williams
No edge and no loss on PJ Williams in pick No. 227; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
