Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall F
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A weekend the Bengals spent fighting the board, and losing. F.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Arvell Reese, 222 picks early at pick No. 238. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Velling steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with offensive lineman still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside. More want than need.
Pick25 Rnd1 Deontae Lawson
In pick 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick52 Rnd2 Duce Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Duce Robinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick57 Rnd2 CJ Allen
CJ Allen at the 57th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89 Rnd3 Keon Sabb
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Sabb in Round 3, Pick 25. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick125 Rnd4 Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at pick No. 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164 Rnd5 Dante Dowdell
Dante Dowdell in the 164th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203 Rnd6 Jalen Hale
They liked Jalen Hale enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 203. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233 Rnd7 Jack Velling
Value with a capital V on Jack Velling in No. 233, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick238 Rnd7 Arvell Reese
They left a pile of value on the table to take Arvell Reese this early at Round 7, Pick 22. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252 Rnd7 Ja'Keem Jackson
They took Ja'Keem Jackson at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
