Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A puzzling weekend of work from the Texans: D+.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent pick No. 28 on Ethan Onianwa, a name the board had a full 224 spots lower. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.

That Stewart pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Ethan Onianwa
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Xavier Nwankpa
A big swing on Xavier Nwankpa at the 38th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick59 Rnd2 Quinten Joyner
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Quinten Joyner. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III in pick 69 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Hykeem Williams
A real head-scratcher, Hykeem Williams in No. 106 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
They took Jude Bowry at par in Round 4, Pick 28, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick166 Rnd5 Evan Tengesdahl
Evan Tengesdahl at the 166th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick243 Rnd7 Squirrel White
They reached into another round for Squirrel White, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick244 Rnd7 Terion Stewart
They will replay Terion Stewart at pick No. 244 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
