Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B-
ValueF NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA-
The Jets fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Jets took Brandon Inniss at pick 16, roughly 206 spots before his name belonged.

Claiborne falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The phones were where this weekend was really won. The veteran additions, Alex Highsmith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Peter Woods
They did well to land Peter Woods in the 12th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick16 Rnd1 Brandon Inniss
In No. 16 they get a matchup problem out wide, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Isaiah World
In pick No. 21 they get protection for the quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick40 Rnd2 Malachi Nelson
They talked themselves into Malachi Nelson at slot 40, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick44 Rnd2 Christen Miller
Christen Miller in Round 2, Pick 12 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick53 Rnd2 Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
They reached a country mile for Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at pick 76, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 Eric O'Neill
A wild overpay on Eric O'Neill in pick No. 103, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175 Rnd5 Blake Shapen
Blake Shapen at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd5 Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne at slot 179 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick193 Rnd6 Barion Brown
Barion Brown in No. 193 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick207 Rnd6 Malik Spencer
This one needs a full-page explanation: Malik Spencer in the 207th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211 Rnd6 Madden Sanker
A real head-scratcher, Madden Sanker in the 211th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218 Rnd7 Denver Harris
Denver Harris at Round 7, Pick 2 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric Gentry well ahead of where he belonged. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
