Draft Grade — Eagles

Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Eagles: C.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Kyle Ford in No. 96. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.

That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Hit on Kevin Winston Jr. and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in Round 1, Pick 32 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick64 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
They robbed the room for Mykel Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick96 Rnd3 Kyle Ford
A real head-scratcher, Kyle Ford in the 96th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 134 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick161 Rnd5 Jam Griffin
Jam Griffin in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick164 Rnd5 Colston Loveland
They barely believed it either: Colston Loveland still on the board at slot 164. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Omari Thomas
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Omari Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith at No. 168 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
