Draft Grade — Vikings
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Vikings won the night they stopped Rodriguez from sliding. Grade: B-.

Of all the ways to open, the Vikings chose the head-scratcher, spending pick 97 on Jacob Rodriguez with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots still wide open. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Singleton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick49 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in Round 2, Pick 17, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick82 Rnd3 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the 82nd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Jacob Rodriguez
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jacob Rodriguez at linebacker with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick161 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Kevin Coleman Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194 Rnd6 Dalton Johnson
Dalton Johnson at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234 Rnd7 Isaiah Jatta
A conviction pick on Isaiah Jatta at pick 234 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick240 Rnd7 Andre Fuller
Good price on Andre Fuller in No. 240, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
