The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chiefs and Thieneman: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Mesidor left real value on the table behind him. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thieneman.
Job largely done: tight end settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the 33rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick34
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Kenyon Sadiq graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
A reach on Akheem Mesidor in pick No. 40; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick44
Rnd2
LT Overton
They went early on LT Overton in No. 44, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick65
Rnd3
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at pick 65 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christen Miller
They will replay Christen Miller at the 66th pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
Good price on Keionte Scott in pick 74, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick101
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
A tidy little value on Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick146
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A reasonable price with a little left over, DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 8. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Nwankpa at No. 176, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
