Jaybeast17 DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
D
ValueF
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The board sent warnings the Chiefs ignored, and it shows: D. The Jermaine Mathews Jr. selection is the head-turner. The Chiefs reached 181 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Put together, it is a D.
Thomas at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
In slot 9 they get a press-man option on the boundary, though the board says they badly overpaid. More want than need.
Pick40
Rnd2
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes at the 40th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jack Endries
They talked themselves into Jack Endries at No. 74, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109
Rnd4
Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II in Round 4, Pick 9 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Semaj Morgan
Semaj Morgan in pick 146 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176
Rnd5
R Mason Thomas
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, R Mason Thomas in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
