Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall A-
ValueA- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA-
Quarterback settled, Moore in the fold, and a A- for the Bengals.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bengals watched Michael Taaffe slide 167 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

Whatever Dante Moore becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Bengals indulged a want in Bailey while a need in cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 3rd pick they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. More want than need.
Pick10 Rnd1 Dante Moore
In the 10th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick18 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
Rueben Bain Jr. at Round 1, Pick 18 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick22 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
In pick No. 22 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Slaughter at pick 33, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick41 Rnd2 David Bailey
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, David Bailey adds an edge rusher and leaves cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick48 Rnd2 Jeremiyah Love
Taking Jeremiyah Love in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick49 Rnd2 Makai Lemon
They will replay Makai Lemon at slot 49 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick55 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq at the 55th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick72 Rnd3 KC Concepcion
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, KC Concepcion in No. 72, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick110 Rnd4 Olaivavega Ioane
They barely believed it either: Olaivavega Ioane still on the board at pick No. 110. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick112 Rnd4 Spencer Fano
Somehow Spencer Fano was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick189 Rnd6 Trevor Goosby
Steal is underselling it; Trevor Goosby at pick 189 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199 Rnd6 Cayden Green
The board fumbled Cayden Green all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick226 Rnd7 Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe at the 226th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
