Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB-

FutureB-
The Chiefs won the night they stopped Scott from sliding. Grade: D-. The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
The Mesidor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. It is not that Scott is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Scott to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick35
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick 35 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kenyon Sadiq
Taking Kenyon Sadiq in Round 2, Pick 8 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
A quiet steal in the 66th pick: D'Angelo Ponds for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jadarian Price at slot 74 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick109
Rnd4
Keionte Scott
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Keionte Scott at cornerback with wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick146
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Domani Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick176
Rnd5
Lander Barton
The board had Lander Barton higher than pick No. 176, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
