Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bengals won the night they stopped McCoy from sliding. Grade: D.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jermod McCoy at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

If Daniels pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Marvin Harrison Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Jake Slaughter
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick48 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in No. 48 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick80 Rnd3 Avieon Terrell
They will replay Avieon Terrell at pick No. 80 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jalon Daniels
A reach on Jalon Daniels in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203 Rnd6 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at the 203rd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229 Rnd7 Deontae Lawson
A linebacker of that caliber at the 229th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick238 Rnd7 Taurean York
Steal is underselling it; Taurean York at slot 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick248 Rnd7 Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy in pick 248 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252 Rnd7 Iapani Laloulu
You do not let an offensive lineman like Iapani Laloulu reach No. 252 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
