The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Princewill Umanmielen in the 82nd pick, a good 56 spots before the room expected him.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Mathews Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick82 Rnd3 Princewill Umanmielen
A big swing on Princewill Umanmielen at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
The board fumbled Jermaine Mathews Jr. all the way to pick No. 118, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163 Rnd5 Lawson Luckie
A slide stopped in No. 163, with Lawson Luckie worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177 Rnd6 Duce Chestnut
Duce Chestnut at Round 6, Pick 1 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick202 Rnd6 Eric Gentry
They reached a country mile for Eric Gentry at the 202nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick231 Rnd7 Turner Corcoran
They went early on Turner Corcoran in pick 231, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick237 Rnd7 Noah Thomas
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Noah Thomas. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
