Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bengals cashed the board's mistake on Lew: D-.

Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Connor Lew, the No. 43 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

Reese has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.

It is not that Sapp is a bad player; it is that the Bengals had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick16 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 16th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Dante Moore
Somehow Dante Moore was still sitting there in slot 44, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick47 Rnd2 Avieon Terrell
Avieon Terrell in pick No. 47 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 David Bailey
David Bailey in No. 75 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick78 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
A linebacker of that caliber at the 78th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tyreak Sapp
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Tyreak Sapp, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick117 Rnd4 LT Overton
They zigged when the board said zag, taking LT Overton at edge rusher with tight end, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick148 Rnd5 Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell at No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick195 Rnd6 Cayden Green
Cayden Green in pick No. 195 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick229 Rnd7 Connor Lew
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Connor Lew in the 229th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 Trevor Goosby
They will replay Trevor Goosby at Round 7, Pick 14 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254 Rnd7 Charles Jagusah
They robbed the room for Charles Jagusah here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
