Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall F
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureF
The board had answers; the Cowboys had Williams Jr.. Grade: F.

The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for E.J. Williams Jr., 122 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. It is not that Haulcy is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

The Love value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with tight end still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In pick No. 12 they get an enforcer at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick13 Rnd1 Jermod McCoy
Nothing to complain about; Jermod McCoy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In No. 21 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 53rd pick on A.J. Haulcy with tight end and interior defensive lineman unsolved.
Pick76 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Value said wait; Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 76 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick151 Rnd5 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at the 151st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick178 Rnd5 Earnest Greene III
They did well to land Earnest Greene III in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick215 Rnd6 Kevin Jennings
Kevin Jennings at slot 215 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick221 Rnd7 E.J. Williams Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for E.J. Williams Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick225 Rnd7 Damari Brown
A big swing on Damari Brown at No. 225, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
