FutureA-
The Vikings land in the muddy middle: C. The Vikings torched the value chart for Jacobe Johnson, taking him 205 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
However the rest shakes out, Ramsey at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The veteran additions, Justice Hill chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with safety the one that mattered most.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Darius Taylor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Taylor. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick49
Rnd2
Zachariah Branch
They talked themselves into Zachariah Branch at pick 49, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jacobe Johnson
They reached a country mile for Jacobe Johnson at the 75th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick102
Rnd4
Aamil Wagner
A wild overpay on Aamil Wagner in pick No. 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd4
Michael Harris
A big swing on Michael Harris at slot 138, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick169
Rnd5
Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey in the 169th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Zakee Wheatley
Somehow Zakee Wheatley was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 33, and they pounced on premier safety value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212
Rnd6
Evan Tengesdahl
Value said wait; Evan Tengesdahl in the 212th pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick235
Rnd7
Jamal Haynes
Jamal Haynes in slot 235 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
They paid up for Elliot Washington II at pick No. 251 when waiting would have done the job. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
