Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
D+
ValueF
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Not the weekend the Cardinals were hoping for: D+. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Rodrick Pleasant in the 10th overall pick, a good 461 spots before the room expected him. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Rodrick Pleasant
In the 10th pick they get a potential shutdown corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick72
Rnd3
Eugene Wilson III
They talked themselves into Eugene Wilson III at Round 3, Pick 8, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
PJ Williams
A wild overpay on PJ Williams in the Round 4 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick151
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
A reach on Tanner Koziol in pick 151; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189
Rnd6
Malachi Singleton
Value said wait; Malachi Singleton in slot 189 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225
Rnd7
Markis Deal
This one needs a full-page explanation: Markis Deal in No. 225, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
