Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C
ValueF NeedA- TradesA+ FutureC+
The 49ers worked the phones like thieves and earned a C.

The DeSean Bishop pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 361 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.

The Maiava steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Monroe Freeling
In pick No. 5 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick128 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
They went early on Eric Rivers in Round 4, Pick 28, and the value did not follow. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick136 Rnd4 Derek Williams Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Derek Williams Jr. in the 136th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick139 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at No. 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141 Rnd4 DeSean Bishop
They reached a country mile for DeSean Bishop at the 141st pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick180 Rnd5 Jayden Maiava
Jayden Maiava at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in the 196th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
