A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-. The Cowboys spent real capital to be 31 picks early on Kyle Louis, and the board is going to hold them to it. Put together, it is a D-.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Landing Stockton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In pick No. 12 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick31
Rnd1
LT Overton
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. More want than need.
Pick63
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
They paid a round early for Malik Muhammad in the 63rd pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in the 89th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in slot 112 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
A conviction pick on DJ Campbell at Round 5, Pick 12 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
Eric McAlister in pick No. 177 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick215
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
They let Gunner Stockton come to them and pounced at slot 215. It fills a real need, too.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
They talked themselves into Jordan Hall at No. 221, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick225
Rnd7
Trey Holly
Trey Holly at Round 7, Pick 9 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
