Draft Grade — Cowboys

The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D+. Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.
Reaching for Murdock left real value on the table behind him. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will answer for taking safety early while wide receiver, running back and other spots went begging.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McNeil-Warren.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 12 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In the 25th pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick57
Rnd2
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Nice patience on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, who had no business lasting to No. 57. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jalon Kilgore in pick 112 leaves wide receiver, running back and other spots for later.
Pick150
Rnd5
Red Murdock
Red Murdock at Round 5, Pick 12 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bud Clark
The board had cheaper options than Bud Clark at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Jerry Wilson at the 215th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick221
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
No edge and no loss on Brett Norfleet in slot 221; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Joey Aguilar in pick No. 225 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
