Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D
ValueB-
NeedB+

FutureC+
The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Kyle Louis, taking him 31 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 12 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
They paid a round early for Akheem Mesidor in slot 50, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick95
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
They took Kaytron Allen at par in No. 95, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis in Round 4, Pick 12 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A reach on Jermaine Mathews Jr. in pick 150; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd5
Eric McAlister
A clean, defensible pick in the 177th overall pick with a little surplus value in Eric McAlister. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick215
Rnd6
Lawson Luckie
Lawson Luckie in Round 6, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick225
Rnd7
PJ Williams
By-the-book stuff, PJ Williams at the 225th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall in pick No. 247 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
