Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B. The Cowboys' one glaring miss is running back, a need they left exactly as they found it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
However the rest shakes out, Stockton at that price is a win they earned. Kearney has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 12 they get the heartbeat of the defense at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In pick No. 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick112
Rnd4
Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in pick 112, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at Round 5, Pick 12 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick177
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at slot 177 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Gunner Stockton at the 215th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick221
Rnd7
Roderick Kearney
They went early on Roderick Kearney in the 221st pick, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
Fair-plus on J. Michael Sturdivant, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
