The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Derrick Moore. He came off 48 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The York pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick25
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at No. 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick57
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the 57th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick89
Rnd3
Taurean York
Taurean York at slot 89 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
A big swing on Kyle Louis at Round 4, Pick 12, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in pick 150 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bud Clark
They liked Bud Clark enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 177. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jerry Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Jerry Wilson at Round 6, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick221
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
They paid up for Joey Aguilar at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225
Rnd7
PJ Williams
They paid a round early for PJ Williams in the 225th pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
