Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The Cowboys bet big and early on Princewill Umanmielen, 64 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Fifita falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
They let Caleb Downs come to them and pounced at the 13th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick24
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 24 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48
Rnd2
Dontay Corleone
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dontay Corleone in Round 2, Pick 16. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
Jaishawn Barham in the 114th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jaden Greathouse
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaden Greathouse. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick177
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner slid further than he should have, and pick 177 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick182
Rnd5
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at No. 182 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick220
Rnd7
Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita in the 220th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231
Rnd7
Robert Spears-Jennings
No drama and no debate, Robert Spears-Jennings went about where he belonged in pick No. 231. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
