Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cowboys: B. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Kamran James, taking him 50 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Nwankpa where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 12 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick112
Rnd4
Bishop Fitzgerald
They did well to land Bishop Fitzgerald in pick 112, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick150
Rnd5
Domani Jackson
Nice patience on Domani Jackson, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa is a better player than slot 177 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kamran James
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kamran James this early at the 215th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick221
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 7, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick225
Rnd7
PJ Williams
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on PJ Williams. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
