Darien DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Chiefs never addressed wide receiver, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They are betting Brailsford proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In slot 9 they get a workhorse for the backfield. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emmanuel Pregnon. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Isaiah World
Isaiah World at the 74th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at pick No. 109 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Tanner Koziol
No edge and no loss on Tanner Koziol in the 146th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick176
Rnd5
Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in Round 5, Pick 38, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
