Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Buccaneers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Patrick Payton at the 122nd pick, a reach of 60 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Hill Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 22nd overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick54
Rnd2
David Bailey
Value said wait; David Bailey in the 54th pick says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick86
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Good price on Keon Sabb in slot 86, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Patrick Payton
A big swing on Patrick Payton at pick 122, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Tristan Leigh
A real head-scratcher, Tristan Leigh in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
