Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Bengals worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Bengals, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Hunter pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Getting Reese where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The Christian Gonzalez pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the 30th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
The board had Caleb Banks higher than the Round 2 slot, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick74 Rnd3 Michael Taaffe
They did well to land Michael Taaffe in No. 74, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick114 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in Round 4, Pick 14 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175 Rnd5 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at the 175th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick188 Rnd6 Lee Hunter
They paid up for Lee Hunter at pick 188 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick196 Rnd6 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in slot 196 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jahiem White
They took Jahiem White at par in pick No. 223, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
