The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Hurst: B. When a board-topper like Ted Hurst slides to the 125th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Every board in the league had Zuhn III lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 31 they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot.
Pick63
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
They will replay Akheem Mesidor at the 63rd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
Taking Jacob Rodriguez in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Ted Hurst
Steal is underselling it; Ted Hurst at slot 125 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Tacario Davis in Round 4, Pick 31, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick171
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
The board fumbled DeMonte Capehart all the way to pick 171, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick191
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
They robbed the room for Aamil Wagner here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick198
Rnd6
VJ Payne
VJ Payne in pick No. 198 lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick202
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
Nice patience on Dallen Bentley, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in pick 212 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick247
Rnd7
Robert Henry Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Robert Henry Jr. in the 247th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick257
Rnd7
Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid slipping to the 257th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
