Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D
ValueB NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
The Cardinals bet the future on Mendoza. The board says D.

Somebody took the Cardinals to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Igbinosun left real value on the table behind him.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Reese steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In pick 8 they get the face of the franchise, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu at Round 2, Pick 7 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick42 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
Somehow Arvell Reese was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick70 Rnd3 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in No. 70 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick105 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Nicholas Singleton at slot 105 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick148 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in the 148th pick, miles early. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick186 Rnd6 Zane Durant
No edge and no loss on Zane Durant in the 186th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick221 Rnd7 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at pick No. 221 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
