Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Xavian Sorey Jr. in the 229th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. That Bailey pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 15 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28 Rnd1 David Bailey
In pick 28 they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick115 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at slot 115 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
They paid up for Jacob Rodriguez at the 155th pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in No. 178 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179 Rnd5 Earnest Greene III
They paid a round early for Earnest Greene III in Round 5, Pick 39, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick216 Rnd7 Princewill Umanmielen
Value said wait; Princewill Umanmielen in Round 7, Pick 1 says they were not listening. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick229 Rnd7 Xavian Sorey Jr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavian Sorey Jr. in pick No. 229, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
