FutureB-
The Buccaneers checked most of the boxes and earned a B. The Buccaneers put a flag in the ground for Patrick Payton, 57 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The Stockton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will answer for taking linebacker early while wide receiver went begging. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese at the 21st overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick46
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Nice patience on Christen Miller, who had no business lasting to pick No. 46. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick77
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
A surprising call. With wide receiver still to address, they spent slot 77 on Josiah Trotter, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick82
Rnd3
Connor Lew
A slide stopped in No. 82, with Connor Lew worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick93
Rnd3
Devin Moore
Value with a capital V on Devin Moore in the 93rd pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Skyler Gill-Howard
A real head-scratcher, Skyler Gill-Howard in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
Mike Washington Jr. at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Patrick Payton in Round 5, Pick 15, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick214
Rnd6
Josh Cuevas
They read the board right and Josh Cuevas was the payoff at the 214th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick229
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at slot 229 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick234
Rnd7
Gunner Stockton
Taking Gunner Stockton in pick 234 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
