Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB
More right than wrong for the Buccaneers, and a B to prove it. The Buccaneers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 193rd overall pick on Kamran James a full 72 spots early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Banks pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick 20 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Somehow Caleb Banks was still sitting there in No. 46, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Connor Lew
The board had Connor Lew higher than the Round 3 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick82
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
The board fumbled Eli Stowers all the way to pick No. 82, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at the 112th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
A tidy little value on Tacario Davis in the 116th pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Red Murdock
A conviction pick on Red Murdock at the 153rd pick that the board grades a round light. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Kamran James
Kamran James at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick229
Rnd7
Ethan O'Connor
A straight-up fair deal on Ethan O'Connor at pick No. 229, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240
Rnd7
Rueben Owens II
By-the-book stuff, Rueben Owens II at No. 240 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
