SAMMY123 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers let Maiava fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Jayden Maiava tumbling to the Steelers in the 154th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Tuliaupupu reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Fair-plus on Sonny Styles, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick78
Rnd3
Trevor Goosby
They will replay Trevor Goosby at slot 78 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick80
Rnd3
Colton Hood
A quiet steal in pick No. 80: Colton Hood for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick99
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at Round 3, Pick 35 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick113
Rnd4
Caleb Lomu
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Caleb Lomu adds an offensive lineman and leaves interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick133
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
They read the board right and Domani Jackson was the payoff at No. 133. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jayden Maiava
They robbed the room for Jayden Maiava here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick213
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at Round 6, Pick 34 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214
Rnd6
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the 214th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick217
Rnd7
Josh Moten
Nice patience on Josh Moten, who had no business lasting to slot 217. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick229
Rnd7
Solomon Tuliaupupu
Solomon Tuliaupupu at pick No. 229 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
