Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Browns: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Roman Hemby in slot 248. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Landing Bisontis that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
A straight-up fair deal on Carnell Tate at pick No. 12, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick28 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In No. 28 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
Pick39 Rnd2 Brandon Cisse
They did well to land Brandon Cisse in pick 39, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70 Rnd3 Germie Bernard
Value with a capital V on Germie Bernard in Round 3, Pick 6, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Jake Golday in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Markel Bell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Markel Bell this early at the 92nd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106 Rnd4 Will Lee III
Will Lee III in No. 106 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107 Rnd4 Chase Bisontis
They robbed the room for Chase Bisontis here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick146 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 146 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Kage Casey
They went early on Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 9, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at the 206th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the 248th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
