FutureD-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a D-. The rest of the league had time to spare on Collin Oliver; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 49 spots ahead at pick 250. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Emmanwori value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In pick No. 24 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25
Rnd1
Will Johnson
The board had Will Johnson higher than slot 25, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick54
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 22, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 56th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick57
Rnd2
Bradyn Swinson
A straight-up fair deal on Bradyn Swinson at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick62
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TreVeyon Henderson at No. 62. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in No. 87 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cody Simon
Cody Simon at Round 4, Pick 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick132
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
No edge and no loss on Rylie Mills in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish slipping to slot 139 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 159 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 187 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick188
Rnd6
CJ West
They took CJ West at par in the 188th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Rogers. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick206
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at pick No. 206 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the 236th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick237
Rnd7
John Williams
A big swing on John Williams at pick 237, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick250
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
