FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and McCord: B+. The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kyle McCord fell into pick 149. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
If Barrow Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Adding Jonathan Taylor by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In slot 23 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 54th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
Fair-plus on Tate Ratledge, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick87
Rnd3
Charles Grant
No edge and no loss on Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick117
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Good price on Joshua Farmer in pick No. 117, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
They barely believed it either: Kyle McCord still on the board at the 149th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
A quiet steal in No. 171: Bhayshul Tuten for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 174th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Tahj Brooks
A tidy little value on Tahj Brooks in Round 6, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick211
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Simeon Barrow Jr. a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239
Rnd7
Bilhal Kone
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 239 with a little surplus value in Bilhal Kone. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mac McWilliams in pick 247. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
