Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chargers.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chargers took Marcus Yarns at the Round 6 slot, roughly 52 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The TeSlaa pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86 Rnd3 David Walker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for David Walker. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125 Rnd4 Xavier Restrepo
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Restrepo in the 125th pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick158 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
This one needs a full-page explanation: Willie Lampkin in Round 5, Pick 20, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick181 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
A reach for Oronde Gadsden II in pick No. 181; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick199 Rnd6 CJ West
They read the board right and CJ West was the payoff at slot 199. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209 Rnd6 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns at pick No. 209 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick214 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
They paid a round early for Carson Vinson in Round 6, Pick 38, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick256 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
You do not let a wide receiver like Isaac TeSlaa reach the 256th pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
