FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Packers. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent the 250th overall pick on Fentrell Cypress II, a name the board had a full 87 spots lower.
However the rest shakes out, Gordon II at that price is a win they earned. The Simon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Nic Scourton
In slot 27 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tre Harris
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tre Harris. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87
Rnd3
Charles Grant
By-the-book stuff, Charles Grant at Round 3, Pick 23 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick91
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Danny Stutsman in No. 91. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cody Simon
A curious use of pick No. 124. Quarterback, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Cody Simon did not.
Pick136
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
They reached into another round for Tyler Baron, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 159 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II in the 198th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick237
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 237th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick250
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
Fentrell Cypress II in No. 250 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
