Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall
B
ValueB-

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Chargers. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chargers reached some 60 spots for Marcus Yarns, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Hunter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In slot 30 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in pick No. 55 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jack Bech
No drama and no debate, Jack Bech went about where he belonged in No. 62. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
David Walker
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for David Walker. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cody Simon
No edge and no loss on Cody Simon in pick 125; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick158
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
They reached into another round for Willie Lampkin, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick170
Rnd5
CJ West
They liked CJ West enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 170. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jalen McLeod
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalen McLeod in the Round 6 slot, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick199
Rnd6
Marcus Yarns
Value said wait; Marcus Yarns in pick No. 199 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Taking Jarquez Hunter in slot 209 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at the 214th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick256
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
A quiet steal in pick 256: LaJohntay Wester for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
