Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
D
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Packers lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. Nobody had Tyler Baron this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 31 spots to get him at the Round 4 slot.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams at pick 23 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick54
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
No drama and no debate, Azareye'h Thomas went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in slot 56 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in No. 90 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick109
Rnd4
Cody Simon
Cody Simon in Round 4, Pick 7 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
They reached a country mile for Tyler Baron at pick No. 124, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
No edge and no loss on Rylie Mills in pick 127; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dont'e Thornton Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick169
Rnd5
CJ West
A reach for CJ West in the 169th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick198
Rnd6
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the 198th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
The board had Carson Vinson higher than Round 7, Pick 21, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick250
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at No. 250 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
