Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Leonard from sliding. Grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Riley Leonard, the No. 101 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 5, Pick 11. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
You do not let a linebacker like Jalon Walker reach No. 44 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
They robbed the room for Elic Ayomanor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick118
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in pick No. 118 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in the 150th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick170
Rnd5
LeQuint Allen
LeQuint Allen in the 170th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Circle this one: Logan Brown at Round 5, Pick 33 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at slot 174 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick190
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in the 190th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick211
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
Simeon Barrow Jr. slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ricky White III
They barely believed it either: Ricky White III still on the board at No. 249. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
