Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Chargers cashed the board's mistake on Bassa: B+.

Somebody in pick 253 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Jeffrey Bassa, the No. 132 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The Webb pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jahdae Barron
In No. 30 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at slot 62 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick86 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant at Round 3, Pick 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick124 Rnd4 Oronde Gadsden II
A wild overpay on Oronde Gadsden II in pick 124, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159 Rnd5 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in the 159th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A reach for Cobee Bryant in the 171st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in pick No. 177 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
No drama and no debate, Dont'e Thornton Jr. went about where he belonged in slot 183. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in the 201st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick215 Rnd6 Clay Webb
Clay Webb at Round 6, Pick 37 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns at the 220th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick253 Rnd7 Jeffrey Bassa
The board fumbled Jeffrey Bassa all the way to No. 253, and they scooped it up. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
